China’s annual National College Entrance Exam, otherwise known as Gaokao,takes 12 years of preparation. It's notoriously tough, and it’s rumoured thatstudents regularly spend 12 hours a day revising before the nine-hour exam.
中国一年一度的全国高校入学考试，又叫“高考”，要花12年的时间去准备。它难到恶名昭著，据传学生每天要花12个小时来复习，为的是那9个小时的考试。
Spread over twodays at the end of high school, it tests students on their Chinese, foreignlanguage, maths, science and the arts. The exam consists of a mixture ofmultiple choice, short answers and essay questions.

It’s ahigh-stakes scenario. Last year, officials went as far as deploying a drone tocatch cheats, according to the BBC.
